Company Profile
The business was first established in 1976 by Terry Mountstephens, having served his apprenticeship on site at the Hinkley Point construction project. Terry saw an opportunity for a reliable and hard working firm to make a name for itself in the Somerset area. In the early days Terry first called around personally to local businesses in the Taunton and Wellington area to offer his services. From those early contacts we have gone on to establish ourselves as a reputable and capable electrical contracting company serving and supporting businesses throughout the county and beyond.
We continue to be a family run business that is proud of its reputation and the work we produce. Andrew Mountstephens (Terry's son) joined the company in 2008 as an apprentice and is now a qualified electrician and Director of Mountstephens Electrical Ltd.
Throughout our company history we have been involved in a huge number of electrical projects of varying sizes from major industrial and commercial construction projects to renovations and extensions for domestic customers. Here are a few highlights to give a flavour of the scope of our past portfolio;
During the 1990s we undertook a number of large construction projects for the Allied Domecq Group
- Complete electrical installation for Matthew Clark at their Fosse Lane regional distribution site in Shepton Mallet, Somerset - 3 large warehouses, goods yard and a 3 storey office block
- Large modern food production and distribution facility for Cow & Gate Nutricia, Wells
- Refurbishment of office headquarters for Beefeater Gin in Vauxhall Bridge, London
- Refurbishment of main offices and warehousing for Grants of St James, Guilford
In the late 1990s we also carried out a full electrical conversion of an existing VP wines factory in Marston Magna. The site was re-purposed into a commercial waste recycling facility for Perrys Recycling. We have continued to provide a full range of electrical installation and maintenance services for Perrys Recycling and in early 2004 we carried out a full electrical installation a new recycling facility for Perrys in Bridgwater, Somerset.
Other notable major construction projects have included;
- Full electrical installation for a 3 storey office block for Ballantynes whiskey in Dumbarton
- Chandlers Ford Hospital near Southampton; refurbishment of two operating theatres.
- Complete electrical rewire of offices and workshops for a commercial coach fitters based in Wellington (Moseley in the South).
- Complete electrical installation at Rowcliffes garage in Priorswood Industrial estate Taunton.
More recent commercial works have included:
- Skipton building society refurbishments, Bristol, Taunton and Plymouth.
- Blackdown Garden Centre, new electrical installation to new two-storey retail building.
- Otter Nurseries new installation of full size commercial kitchen and restaurant in garden centre near Plymouth.
- Extensive work with shop fitting firm ACT carrying out refurbishments of Clinton Cards branches throughout the UK.
We have completed a number of barn conversions and renovations/extensions with local building contractors Quantock Builders Ltd. We are also involved with a number of renovation and construction projects to listed properties with specialist firm Wessex Conservation Ltd.
We have established a close working relationship with residential letting agents Webbers and Greenslade Taylor Hunt, providing essential maintenance, electrical testing installation services both at the pre-tenancy stage as well as during a tenancy period to complement their fully managed letting services.
We also work closely with Yeo Valley Farms Production Ltd at a number of their food production and storage facilities (Somerset, North Somerset and Devon). Working within strict food hygiene requirements on energy saving LED lighting projects as well as temperature and energy monitoring systems for sites in North Somerset and Devon.
